Description:

Everyone involved with Aston Martin since the mid 1970's recognised the need for a less expensive car that could be sold into a much bigger marketplace. But it wasn't until the Ford Motor Company took a controlling interest in Aston Martin Lagonda in 1988 that the dream began to become a reality. After a 22 year gap Aston Martin unveiled the spiritual successor to the DB6, the stunningly beautiful DB7.

The unveiling of the DB7 at the 1993 Geneva Salon was one of the most significant events in Aston Martin history. Here was a modern supercar that the company could build in relative quantity, initially about 600 per year. Often described as the most beautiful car ever, the Scottish designer Ian Callum's first Aston Martin was absolutely right. It still looks modern today and every inch a classic Aston Martin. Production of the supercharged straight six DB7 began a year later at the former Jaguar Sport factory in Bloxham, Oxfordshire.

The construction of the DB7 was a significant departure from previous AM practice as the body structure is a steel semi-monocoque with some composite panels such as the nose and bonnet. The Jaguar derived and TWR developed 3239cc six cylinder power plant is augmented with an Eaton supercharger, sufficient to produce 335bhp. Production of the six cylinder car continued until 1999 at which time it was replaced with the DB7 V12 Vantage.

It is almost traditional that each Aston Martin coupe has an equivalent open variant. And by early 1996, the Volante was unveiled to an excited audience. Designed by Ian Callum at the same time as the coupe the Volante looks elegant with hood either up or down, much like the earlier Aston Martin drophead cars. The extra weight and aerodynamic drag have thankfully had only had a minor effect on performance, Autocar road tested a ‘VOLANTE' for the November 1996 issue (4212) achieving 6.5 seconds 0-60 and a maximum speed of 152 mph. 879 DB7 Volantes were built between 1996-99 half of which were left hand drive.

First Registered in March 1999 this DB7 Volante would of been one of the last supercharged examples produced, Last supplied by Aston Martin of Mayfair in 2004, Full Aston Martin Main Dealer/Specialist Service History, Last Serviced at 40k
